We have been fortunate at Harts Boatyard over the last fifteen years to have a number of highly skilled boatbuilders at our disposal. Over that period we have rebuilt numerous Thames launches, skiffs and punts and more recently completely rebuilt three Thames A Raters.
The 'A' Raters are unique to our stretch of river and historically represent the birth of dinghy sailing as we know it today.
The last Rater we restored was "Ulva". Built in 1889 she is the oldest surviving boat. The rebuild took nearly a year replacing 85% of her timbers. The result, we think, was stunning, and she was the main attraction at the 2004 Dinghy exhibition and won the 'Outstanding Boat of the Show' award.
We also took Ulva to the Henley Traditional Boat Rally where we collected the Chaplin Trophy for 'The Best Restoration of a Classic Craft'.
We currently have a number of Andrews Slipper launches awaiting restoration and a 1910 Messums gig.
Currently under restoration is a vintage Andrews slipper launch which has had new planking repairs to many of the frames and a new electric propulsion system installed. We have maintained the overall appearance of the vessel and have used as many of the original fittings as possible. The boat will be delivered to Mr Gilmore springtime 2012.
Harts Boatyard is always on the look out for and keen to undertake new restorations projects.
